Just like the saying that not all cars are created equal…not all compression is the same either. The severity of a person’s specific venous disease determines the applied pressure required, the stiffness or containment level of the material, and the style or length of the product.
There are four commonly recognized compression levels for various degrees of venous disease.

Effective compression therapy is when the correct amount of compression is applied to the leg with consistent patient compliance. Many factors come into play like gender, patient lifestyle, size, as well as ability – this all helps specify the right product selection.
The stiffness or resistance of each product will assist with the appropriate level of edema control needed. In general, the more edema the greater level of stiffness of the material that is needed to contain and prevent further complications.
