Third times quite the charm at Camp WatchMe 2024

Nestled amongst a picturesque 8000-foot elevation lies a haven within the majestic peaks of the Rocky Mountains called the YMCA of the Rockies campground. It was here that corralled dozens of kind, compassionate people, all brought together to support children of all ages with primary lymphedema in tandem with Brylan’s Feat Foundation and Camp WatchMe. medi for help®, the non-profit organization of medical device manufacturer medi® was proud to be a sponsor of the 2024 camp, sending its Director of Clinical Education, Bryan Groleau, Senior Clinical Education Manager, Jonathan Nguyen, and Marketing Graphic Design Specialist, Monika Mikkola-Davis. This marked the third consecutive year that medi for help supported this phenomenal organization.

Camp WatchMe is hosted in two, 1-week sessions each summer by rockstars Betty Westbrook (Founder of Camp WatchMe and host of “Lymphedema Podcast”) and Brittany Williams (Founder and Executive Director of Brylan’s Feat Foundation) for children with lymphedema and their families from across the United States and Canada. Brylan’s Feet Foundation is a non-profit organization that originally started as a garment fund for children in the US but has since transformed into an international non-profit with over130 recipients in over twenty-two countries worldwide. At Camp WatchMe, each camper and their family teamed up with a CLT who generously volunteered at the camp to provide manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) and bandaging twice each day, helping to coach the families on how to provide similar care after leaving camp. The campers also got to experience the “typical” summer camp activities: beautiful hikes, archery, lip-sync battles, and campfires, and the camaraderie that only a summer camp can foster. Many campers were returnees, while a handful were new to the experience this year.

Each family was incredibly appreciative of the medi for help team and the time spent properly fitting their child according to their individual case and needs. While all experiences were valuable, it was important to highlight why specific materials and options are selected to create a custom garment. Teaching the ‘why’ behind all of the options involved in creating a custom garment will empower each family and child when working with their local fitters back at home to determine the best solution.  medi for help is proud to be supporting this worthwhile camp, bringing education and flat-knit medi®products to these happy campers and their families!
